Post AIM 17, everyone mad about Kembara Award

Although i felt ridiculously chic in my AIM 17 attire,
(pink songket made by Zee Eika and make up by Shu Uemura)
somehow in the photos, that lady smiling back kinda screams.....

'YO! I'm trapped in Saloma era! Get me into a current trending dress'

But i paid no attention, paying tribute to the 50's is something i needed to do;
the arts during that era was at its peak; somehow it just spoke to me.

(with Jules and Ben)

(with Tini, Nadia, Tony and Hafiz.)

It's different watching AIM 17 this year, everyone tweeted everything that went on, stuff you blurt to your friends and family in front of the TV are now made public. Thanks twitter, you dig people's thoughts with no effort.

So I did a post AIM-17 show on Fly Fm the following morning and called Jennifer Thompson, spoke to her about (*)Kembara Award and why Bunkface deserved it and played clips of what some of my awesome music friends thought of after their win: Yuna, Hazami, Dato' Siti and more.

But what i clarified on the show as well was the little cat fight between Atilia Haron and Zee Avi.

It was all over twitter....... Atilia RT-ed a tweet posted by a friend saying Zee Avi had lipstick stained teeth because she's been a snob since she's been to US and that obviously sparked animosity from both sides.

Badabim-badaboom, Atilia told me over the phone (which I aired on FLY FM), that although she has apologized via DM and email, Zee Avi blocked her on twitter.

Now this is not the first time i've heard of Zee Avi snubbing people, i could safely say, it's a known 'rumor'. Regardless, being a victim of rumors in the past, i know how it feels and therefore i will not judge both ladies.

HOWEVER, despite saying that, i do think that a sense of humility shown by another human being should be treated with respect and not be shunned. It takes a big person to apologize and a bigger person to accept the apology.

Apart from a little drama, AIM 17 was so much fun. I sat and partied with my coolest brother, Hafiz, and even rocked the after party. We danced and danced and then danced some more.

Really hope one day i could rock it on stage with my music.
:)

Additional note

(*) Kembara Award is given to a local act who is signed locally and has brought their music to an international scene through various mediums. Performances overseas is also looked at in terms of what audience the artiste attracts for e.g.: Not just a performance for Malaysian students overseas.

Hi Hunny...

well i dont get it too..why bunkface?
wat do they do? why not pop shuvit?

I wouldn't agree to Bunkface wins, but if there's no other nominations, then maybe they deserve it.

There's also a fine line to be doing it great overseas under a local label, and to also truly representing your own country, the essence of Malaysia, abroad. Then again, maybe I don't really follow the Pop Mainstream Music scene, hence my lack of knowledge in how big this band has made it and how good their music and repertoire is.

On the other hand, you do look nice in that pink kebaya. But I reckon if you put on a kebaya nyonya, surely lagi cantik.

And the AH and ZA issue. Well, you're right. As long as there's public apology given, a public forgiveness should be announced as well. I love both of them exclusively but at the end of the day, we're all human, with flaws.

i belief narrowing down the kembara award requirement to just local artist signing with local label is just shallow. and isnt something out of the box and doesnt encourage local musicians to venture overseas, a much wider market.

as a matter of fact, previously there are a few more artistes localhood who signed locally make few shows/effort overseas but left unrecognised.

for e.g ning baizura,pop shuvit.

oh anyway sadly..shayna zaid, zee avi, saer ze are just a few bunch of solo female singers who venture cross the borders but left unnnoticed for whatever reasons, eventhough they proudly carrying malaysian flag's oversea proving that malaysia mmg boleh!

zee avi lil success in usa starting last year was historic!

AIM is just trying to gain audience/ratings from bunkface fame. thats all.

anyway...personally my kembara award this year belongs to zee avi.

last year it was shayna zaid.

perhaps next year yuna and probably bunkface(if they really able to make the buzz impressing international fans/media)

or hunny madu? :)
